Easy Walk

1.5kms (Just under 1 mile) circular walk via the Sand Pit. Waymarked by orange sandy surface.

Start from the Six Cross Roads Car Park. Walk through the exit onto the common opposite the gate, alongside the information board, continue past the horse barrier, through the open space and on until you reach the lip of the sandpit.

Turn right for 100m and pass the second seat, on for another 100m and the path bends sharp left.

As you walk up a short slope to the Hanning Seat you will see the popular play area of fresh sand stretched in front of you, this was the last section of the sandpit to be worked, quarrying finished in the early 1960s.

Walk on to the next seat and turn right. After another 100m you pass another seat and enter a flat open area stocked with heather, this is reputed to be the site of a Roman staging post

As you enter the trees again the path turns sharp right and runs parallel with a horse track. Continue through the young birch until the path opens out onto heather again. Now you have the final 400m section, mainly through open heather and crossing the route of a gas main. The walk then meets the outward bound first leg of the path, at the first seat. Turn left here and regain the car park.
